Types of Poems

Narrative - This type of poem talks about a story, with plot and climax, characters and settings, it can be short or long depends. 

Ballads - This is an old style of writing poetry, which was used to tell stories, a ballad usually tells about love, betrayal and death. 

Epic - This poem is usually a long and descriptive one which tells a story, an epic usually tells about a hero, using elegant language

Lyric - This type of poem is use to express personal feelings and emotions

Sonnets - This type of poem contains fourteen lines and follows conventional structures of rhyme

Odes - An ode is a poem that is written for an occasion or on a particular subject. They are usually dignified and more serious as a form than other forms of poetry.

Elegies - This type of poem usually talks about death of a person, either to remember or for others to understand better about that person.

Free verse - This is a method of writing poetry, which does not essentially follow any structure or style. There is no fixed meter and no structure regarding rhyme and lines in each stanza.
